12 and 24 Hours of Exposure

Last weekend saw the 3rd UK and European 24 Hour Solo MTB Championships and taking the top spot, UK and European titles was Loco Racing sponsored rider Huw, riding for Niner/Stans/Ergon UK! Joining him on the podium was new Loco Racing team member Gareth Hayes, coming 2nd in the UK Championships and 3rd in the European Championships.

Huw rode 20 laps of the 18km course, covering 360km and 10,000m of climbing in a hard fought race with a number of very strong endurance racers. Taking the lead after 14 hours he held on and pulled away to win by 2 laps. Gareth put in a fantastic effort, clocking up 17 laps of the tough but enjoyable course to get Loco Racing on the podium.

Jonny, in his first 12 hour solo race, finished strong in 9th place with 9 laps.

All in all a great weekend for Loco Tuning!

Bristol OktoberFest

Well done to Scott and Zoe at the Bristol Bikefest this weekend, finishing 5th in the 8 hour mixed pairs, completing 15 laps of the new course. Unfortunately Andrew did not start having to pull out due to a stomach bug.

Also Mark had a brilliant run-ride-run in his first duathlon at Sunday's 2011 Runrider, finishing 9th in the Classic Open Male category.

Mark, Zoe and Scott raced as a Mixed Team in the 12 hour race at Thetford Forest at the weekend, finishing in 7th place with 11 laps. Well done to them for racing in what were grim muddy conditions.

Relentless 24 Hour Solo Win

Huw rode 340km, with nearly 9,000m ascent to win the 24 hour solo senior category at the Niterider Relentless 24 in Fort William in Scotland at the weekend. Conditions were dismal with 24 hours of constant rain, but he managed to ride through the gruelling conditions to finish the race and his 2011 season on a high. This was only Huw's second 24 hour solo race, but certainly won't be his last.

A Win at the Howies Coed y Brenin Enduro

Huw came 1st at the Howies Coed y Brenin Enduro this weekend, completing the tough 52km course in 2 hours 45 minutes. The course was an excellent mix of Coed y Brenin's trail centre singletrack and some fine off-piste riding that was worth the trip north alone. Huw's latest Blog entry recalls his race and the event in general, but admits he may have got some of the sections during the course mixed up and in the wrong order!

The Hobbit's Tale Ride - Guinness World Record Confirmed

Congratulations to Dave (davebuchanan.co.uk) who had his Guinness World Record attempt for the most time riding a mountain bike non-stop during The Hobbit's Tale ride confirmed by Guinness at the weekend.

In May 2011, Dave became the first person to ride off road from Cardiff Bay to Caernarfon, and back to Cardiff Bay, non-stop (a route also known as "The Hobbit's Tale"). He completed this epic ride in 59 hours, covering a distance of over 700km and ascending over 22,300m.

Dave raised money for CLIC Sargent (Children's Cancer Charity), who got Dave into the sport. His fund raising page can be reached on the Virgin Money Giving website.

We'll keep you posted on what Dave has in store for 2012. All I know from speaking to Dave is it'll be a good one, so watch this space.

BM Racing, Jo and Triathlons!

BM Racing seems to be branching out to different sporting events outside of endurance mountain biking after Jo completed the Cats Solutions Cotswold Triathlon at the weekend, organised by Triferris Promotions. Jo finished 6th in category. Her times are as follows:

750m Swim : 16m 19s

Transition 1 : 1m 38s

20Km Bike : 35m 56s

Transition 2 : 1m 02s

5km Run : 25m 21s

Total Time : 1h 20m 18s

Conditions weren't great during the event with a strong headwind for the bike and run, and it was pretty wet for the swim ;-)

Jo is building up with her triathlon events as she has entered into the X Man UK 2012, the first fully off road Iron distance triathlon. Check out the distances:

•Swim 2.4 mile (3.86 km) open water sea swim

•Bike 112 mile (180.25 km) multi-terrain - 90% off-road

•26.2 mile (42.195 km) trail run

Ouch!

Silverwear at Benromach Deg yn Llandegla

Congratulations to the team for their fantastic efforts at the weekend at No Fuss' Benromach Deg yn Llandegla. Huw finished 2nd place in the 10 hour solo completing 11 laps (190km) of brutal, but fun, 16km course, behind 1st place with the same number of laps, and one lap ahead of 3rd place.

Mark and Zoe had a well fought race but missed out on the top spot by a few minutes, and finished 2nd in the mixed pairs, completing 10 laps of the course.

Jon made a welcome return to racing and completed a few solo laps before having to return to his dad duties, but it was great to see him back on the bike.

Rock Shox Support for Huw

Huw has been very fortunate to receive a generous product support deal with Rock Shox, currently in the form of some very nice 2011 Rock Shox SID RLT Ti 120 forks for his Giant Anthem X. They have been set up and tuned ready to race at next week's BC Bike Race by Simon at Loco Tuning, who was reponsible for securing the deal for Huw - many thanks as always!

Bristol Bikefest 2011

We're back from a very successful weekend of racing at the 2o11 Bristol Bikfest, with another couple of podium places from the girls. Saturday saw Jo finishing 3rd in the Female 12 Hour Solo, completing 20 laps in 11 hours 45 minutes. Mark and Huw were up against some very fast competition in the Men's 12 Hour Pairs category and finished in 6th place, completing 27 laps in 11 hours 42 minutes. Scott finished his first 12 hour solo race, completing 21 laps in 11 hours 43 minutes, while Andrew finished 6th in the Men's 12 Hour Solo Singlespeed category completing 18 laps in 11 hours 30 minutes. He also made it harder for himself by riding it on rigid forks!

Dave, riding with the Miggly Moos Team this weekend in the Team Old Gits Category finished 3rd, while Jonny rode well with the Beyond 9 to 5 Team.

Sunday saw a complete change in the weather from Saturday's glorious warm sunshine and dry, dusty course, to heavy showers and a very changeable, wet, slippery, but still fun, course. Following on from Zoe's 12 hour solo at Erlesoke last week, she finished 3rd in the Female 6 Hour Solo, completing 9 laps in 5 hours 44 minutes.

After very little rest and recovery, Mark and Huw were up again in the 6 Hour Men's Pairs category and narrowly missed a podium place by 4 minutes, coming 4th with 12 laps in 5 hours 44 minutes.

Full results can be found on the Timelaps website.

Podiums at Erlestoke

The girls shone at the Erlsestoke 12 and 6 hour this weekend with Jo and Zoe winning the 6 hour and 12 hour female solo races. Jo beat off the competition completing 7 laps in 5 hours 19 minutes in the female's 6 hour solo, while Zoe won the 12 hour female solo by 4 laps, completing 13 laps in a time of 11 hours 39 minutes.

Huw fought his way up to a respectable 4th place in the Men's 6 hour solo completing 9 laps in 5 hours 34 minutes, despite feeling under the weather leading up to, and during the race, missing out on a 3rd place by 12 minutes. Unofortunately, Mark pulled out after 4 laps with mechanical issues.

The 12km course at the Erlestoke 12 was tough, with many sharp steep climbs. Most of the course was a mix of fast flowing and some tight technical singletrack which made it very enjoyable! Luckily the weather remained mostly dry.

Full results provided by Timelaps

The Hobbit's Tale - Completed

Last weekend, our good friend and team mate, Dave Buchanan became the first person to ride off road from Cardiff Bay to Caernarfon, and back to Cardiff Bay, non-stop (a route also known as "The Hobbit's Tale"). He completed this epic ride in 59 hours, covering a distance of over 700km and ascending over 22,300m.

Not only that, along the way, Dave became the first person to ride from Cardiff Bay to Caernarfon, off road, non stop within 24 hours. While riding this amazing journey, Dave also broke a Guinness World Record for the most time riding a mountain bike non-stop.

Dave was accompanied by a support crew of friends who provided support at the many checkpoints along the route as well as having a support rider for each stage of the route. It was an honour and a privilege for myself, and the rest of the Loco BM Racing team, to be a part of the support team to see Dave through some tough times along the way as well as seeing him ride into Cardiff Bay and down into the "Celtic Ring" to complete a truly inspirational achievement.

For more details of his ride, go to www.davebuchanan.co.uk

Dave is raising money for CLIC Sargent (Children's Cancer Charity), who got Dave into the sport, and the total currently stands at £2,200. His fund raising page can be reached on the Virgin Money Giving website.

The Hobbit's Tale

Dave will be attempting "The Hobbit's Tale Guinness World Record" ride this weekend and as well as going for the record of being the greatest distance covered on a mountain bike in 48hours, he is also raising money for CLIC Sargent, a very worthy cancer charity that is close to Dave's heart, and which got Dave into mountain biking in the first place I believe.

BC Bike Race - Fund Raising for Wales Air Ambulance

Mark and I are travelling to Canada in July to race in the BC Bike Race, an epic 7-day stage race starting in Vancouver and ending 400km later in Whistler, the Mountain Bike Capital of the World.

Not only do we want to give this race our best shot but we would also at the same time like to try and raise some money for the very worthy Wales Air Ambulance Charitable Trust (http://www.walesairambulance.com/ ). The Wales Air Ambulance service provide emergency rescue for those in life threatening situations where access by the road based Ambulance Service is not possible. As mountain bikers we are often out in the middle of no where and hope we never need their services but the day might just come when we do, so please help us to support the Wales Air Ambulance before we need them to support us.

Through Virgin Money Giving, you can sponsor us and donations will be quickly processed and passed to charities. Virgin Money Giving is a not for profit organisation and will claim gift aid on a charity's behalf where the donor is eligible for this. We really appreciate all your support and thank you for any donations.

http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/Loco_BM_Racing
